ADRIAN — The intersection of East Maumee Street and Maple Avenue in Adrian could soon be redesigned.

Interim Parks & Recreation Director Matt Tomaszewski told City Commissioners at their meeting on Monday that his goals in redesigning the intersection are improving visibility and reducing speed.

According to Tomaszewski, five accidents have occurred at the location over the past nine years.

If plans are allowed to proceed, the width of the pedestrian crossing would be reduced from 128 feet to 45 feet, and the intersection would be aligned with South Dean Street.

The cost of the design would be around $20,000, and work would take place concurrently with planned construction on Maple Avenue this fall.

Commissioners agreed that the redesign would make the crossing safer, but some were concerned about the potential loss of street parking.

The Commission is expected to vote on the matter, and could possibly hold a public hearing, at their next meeting on Monday, April 20th.
