HUDSON — Hudson student engineers have turned a classroom project into a life-changing tool, creating a 3D-printed mobility device for a young Lenawee County learner.
Students in Jennifer Mason’s Engineering Essentials classes built Toddler Mobility Trainers using open-source designs, producing dozens of components and assembling them into fully functional devices aimed at improving independence for young children.
The project required precision design, new materials, and problem-solving, with a focus on safety and durability. One completed device was delivered to a student at Trenton Hills Learning Center through the Lenawee Intermediate School District.
Educators say the experience gave students hands-on engineering skills while reinforcing teamwork and real-world impact, with work already underway on an additional device.
