MORENCI – The Morenci Police Department is alerting residents to a recent scam affecting members of the community.
Chief Nathan Adams reported in an open letter Thursday that some residents have received unsolicited text messages claiming to be from the Michigan Secretary of State.
These messages, which attempt to pressure recipients into paying for an alleged traffic violation, are not legitimate.
Chief Adams advises residents not to click any links or provide personal information in response, and to delete suspicious messages immediately.
For detailed information and guidance on protecting yourself, please read the full letter from Chief Adams, available at City of Morenci dot org and the City of Morenci Facebook page.
If you believe you have been targeted or have questions, contact the Morenci Police Department at (517) 458-7104.
