MICHIGAN — Four Michigan cities are getting national attention as spring break road trip hotspots, including Kalamazoo.
A survey of over 3,000 college students ranked the best “party pitstops” for spring break travelers. In Michigan, Ann Arbor ranked highest at 28, followed by East Lansing, number 41, Kalamazoo, number 78, and Grand Rapids, number 123.
The report points to Kalamazoo’s mix of Western Michigan University nightlife and a strong local brewery scene as a steady, social stop for travelers heading south. Unlike larger party hubs, Kalamazoo was described as more laid-back, offering a “calm but confident” start before longer drives.
The survey also highlighted safety concerns tied to spring break travel. More than half of students say they’ve regretted partying before finishing a long drive, while truck drivers report increased risks from distracted and fatigued drivers during the season.
Experts say while these stops are part of the tradition, planning ahead, getting enough rest, and avoiding drinking and driving remain critical for a safe trip.
