ADRIAN — Adrian city commissioners have approved plans for a new downtown Town Square project, with one key change.
The commission voted Monday to move forward with the development, but not before approving an amendment to remove planned fire pits from the design. Some commissioners raised concerns about safety and long-term liability, leading to the change.
WLEN News spoke with Adrian City Manager Chad Baugh about the decision:
The project will still include space for food trucks, public restrooms, seating areas, lighting, and green space. Officials say the goal is to create a central gathering place downtown.
The Town Square project is expected to cost about 2-point-8 million dollars and will be fully funded through grants, with no direct cost to the city.
