ADRIAN — The Adrian City Commission will hold off voting on two resolutions, which would support the construction of a downtown bike loop and town square, until their next regular meeting on Monday, March 16th.
City Administrator Chad Baugh informed the Commission during Monday night’s meeting that there was not yet a memo of understanding between the city and Lenawee Now, who are administering the $15 million grant that would fund these and other projects.
Commissioners were in disagreement with how to proceed with the resolutions, and Community Development Director Lisa-Hewitt-Cruz urged for a vote during the meeting, so the remaining grant funds could be spent before the end-of-year deadline.
WLEN News spoke with Chad Baugh after the meeting, and he expressed his concerns with Lenawee Now despite his general support for their projects…

The Commission ultimately voted to table their resolution supporting the Downtown Bike Loop in a 5-2 vote, with Commissioners Chip Moore and Matthew Schwartz being the dissenting votes, and did the same with their resolution to support the Town Square in a 6-1 vote, with Moore being the lone no vote.
However, the Commission did vote in favor of installing a new clock in the center of Downtown Adrian in a tight 4-3 vote, with Commissioners Mary Roberts, Tiffany Zych and Aaron Chesher voting no, and a $250,000 program to improve downtown facades passed unanimously.
