WASHINGTON — The House has passed a bipartisan human trafficking bill aimed at improving how federal workers identify and report exploitation.

Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg co-sponsored the legislation, known as the Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act, alongside Georgia Congresswoman Lucy McBath.

Supporters say the bill strengthens training for employees at the U.S. Department of Labor, who may be among the first to encounter signs of forced labor or sexual exploitation during workplace inspections.

The measure also establishes clearer guidelines for reporting suspected trafficking and creates a framework for Labor Department staff to coordinate with law enforcement.

The legislation also requires additional transparency and reporting to Congress on how the Department of Labor detects and responds to trafficking cases.
