WASHINGTON — The USDA has launched the One Farmer One File initiative, a modernization effort that could directly impact Lenawee County farmers who use federal programs.
The initiative is designed to create a single, streamlined digital record for each producer across the Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Risk Management Agency.
USDA officials say the goal is to reduce paperwork and eliminate duplicate reporting when farmers enroll in programs, report acreage or apply for disaster assistance.
For Lenawee County producers, that could mean faster processing for crop insurance, conservation programs and federal loan services.
The modernization effort began in 2025 and is expected to advance through 2026, with full implementation anticipated by 2028.
USDA officials say the system is intended to improve efficiency and simplify program access for farmers nationwide.
