TECUMSEH — The Tecumseh District Library will host a railroad history program March 21 focused on the New York Central Jackson Branch that once ran through downtown Tecumseh.
Library Director Jordan Wright announced the event, which will be presented by Southern Michigan Railroad Society volunteer and Board Secretary Brian Monaco.
The program will trace the railroad’s history from its beginnings in 1836 through its abandonment by Conrail in 1982. Organizers said the presentation will also examine how the line evolved under multiple owners and how it influenced communities between Lenawee Junction and Jackson.
The event will also cover the railroad’s modern chapter beginning in 1985, when the Southern Michigan Railroad Society acquired the line and began preservation efforts.
The program is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m. in Meeting Room A at the Tecumseh District Library.
The event is part of the library’s America 250 lecture series commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
