LANSING — The independent contractor rule proposed by the Trump administration is drawing support from Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg.

Walberg, who serves as chairman of the U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee, said the proposed rule would update federal regulations to reflect modern work arrangements and provide clarity for businesses and workers.

In a statement released Thursday, Walberg said independent contractors represent entrepreneurial opportunity and flexibility for millions of Americans. He said the rule would reduce regulatory barriers and allow workers to choose arrangements that best fit their needs.

Walberg also said the proposal would support small businesses and job growth while promoting economic freedom.

The proposed rule has been introduced by the Trump administration and would go through the federal rulemaking process before taking effect.
