
Amy Cathleen Hartley, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and teacher, departed this world peacefully on February 24, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Born on July 4, 1976, in Adrian, Michigan, Amy was the cherished daughter of John and Cathy (Commenator) Hartley.
Her memory will be lovingly preserved by her mother, brother Daniel (Alyssa) Hartley of Hudson, MI, sister Sarah Hartley of Superior Township, MI, and her four cherished nieces and nephews: Eli, Holly, Luke and Trinity. She also leaves behind her uncles, Jim L. (Deanna) Hartley, Dennis (Jill) Hartley, Ralph Commenator, and Ron Bilbrey; her aunts, L. Marie Hartley, Marianne (Duane) Suliin, and Mary Commenator; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, two aunts, one uncle, and two cousins.
Amy’s educational journey began at Sacred Heart School and continued at Hudson Area High School, where she graduated in 1994. She pursued her passion for mathematics, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Adrian College in 1999, and later, a Master of Arts in Guidance and School Counseling from Siena Heights University in 2005. Her dedication to education was evident throughout her 23-year teaching career, which commenced at Union City Community Schools and culminated in two decades of inspiring and nurturing young minds at Jonesville High School. Her students were her greatest love, and she took immense pride in guiding them toward their futures.
Amy was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the MEA. She was the JEA Treasurer. Amy’s commitment to service extended beyond the classroom. She contributed her talents to the yearbook and various school committees. She was an avid crafter, a voracious reader, passionate sports enthusiast and Notre Dame fan and proudly collected Dayton Hudson Santa Bears, completing the entire set with joy. Her love for Christmas was unparalleled, and she often filled her home with the scents of her delicious baked goods. Yet, above all, Amy’s greatest joy was found in the company of her beloved family and students, who were the center of her world. Her fantastic sense of humor and meticulous planning were matched only by her deep-rooted love for her family and students.
A Funeral Mass for Amy will be celebrated Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Hudson, with Fr. Todd Koenigsknecht as celebrant, Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Marry Funeral Home, Hudson, MI on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Prayer Service will be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the John and Cathy Hartley Family Scholarship Fund through the Hillsdale County Community Fund.
