TECUMSEH — Tecumseh Public Schools is proposing a new Careers in Data Science course for the 2026–27 school year. The Careers in Data Science elective would serve as a potential fourth-year math option for high school students.
The proposal was presented during the February 23 Board of Education meeting. Curriculum Director Megan Way told trustees the district reviewed its current elective offerings and identified workforce demand in data science as an opportunity to expand programming.
The Careers in Data Science course would introduce students to Excel, Python and data analysis concepts. The class is designed to connect technical skills with real-world applications in business and technology. Administration said the course could help prepare students for postsecondary education or immediate entry into data-focused careers.
The district plans to pilot one section of the Careers in Data Science course next year. Way said the course would likely be taught by the district’s computer science instructor and align with existing math and technology pathways.
If approved, the course would be added to the 2026–27 high school course catalog. Administrators said student interest will be evaluated before considering expansion in future years.
