HILLSDALE — The Michigan Youth Livestock Scholarship Fund has awarded multiple scholarships to students in Hillsdale County as part of the 2025 Michigan Youth Livestock Scholarships announced by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Zoe Stanger of Monroe County was awarded a $1,000 state-wide scholarship.

The Michigan Youth Livestock Scholarships include four recipients from Hillsdale County in Southeast Michigan. Joscelyn Layman received a $2,000 scholarship. Jack Thielen was awarded $1,500. Sydney Fowler received $1,250, and Clara Heath was awarded $1,000.

According to Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Tim Boring, the scholarship funding supports continued growth and opportunities for younger generations and aligns with the department’s mission to improve quality of life for Michigan residents.

Statewide, the Michigan Youth Livestock Scholarships program disbursed $62,000 to 39 students this year. The fund is supported by proceeds from the annual Michigan Livestock Expo Sale-Abration auction and charitable donations.

Since 2000, the program has awarded more than $916,000 in scholarships and educational awards.
