CLAYTON — Ramsdell Park has installed a new bird monitor and weather station, expanding interactive outdoor learning opportunities for visitors.
The additions allow residents, students and educators to observe bird activity and track local weather conditions in real time. Both tools are accessible online through links on the Ramsdell Park webpage.
The project was led by Siena Heights University Professor of Biology Thomas Wassmer, Ph.D. The initiative focuses on hands-on environmental science and community engagement by bringing live ecological data into a public park setting.
Funding for the installations was provided through a grant from the Oaks Foundation. The foundation has partnered with Ramsdell Park on previous improvements, including trail markers, educational signage and visitor kiosks.
Park officials said the new features are designed to strengthen the park’s role as both a recreational destination and an outdoor classroom.
The bird monitor and weather station are now operational and available for public use online.
