WHITEFORD TWP. — A fatal crash on US-23 in Whiteford Township claimed the life of one driver Saturday night.
Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reports the crash happened at 9:56 p.m. on northbound US-23, south of Sterns Road.
Investigators say an 18-year-old Dundee man was driving a 2023 Ford F-150 northbound in the left lane with a 17-year-old female passenger when the pickup was struck head-on by a southbound 2017 Ford Escape traveling in the northbound left lane.
The driver of the Escape was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two occupants of the F-150 were transported to Toledo ProMedica Hospital in serious condition. All three were wearing seat belts. Airbags deployed in both vehicles.
Authorities say careless driving is a factor in the crash.
The Whiteford Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit and Chaplain Program assisted at the scene.
