ADRIAN — Adrian High School student Sydney Britt has won the statewide Youth Art Month Flag Contest, earning top honors in both the high school division and overall Michigan competition.
The Michigan Art Education Association’s annual Youth Art Month contest asked students to design original artwork incorporating the word “Michigan” under the theme “The World Needs Art.” Adrian High School’s Art Club submitted entries during the fall under the guidance of advisors Annie Howard and Victoria Beagle.
As the overall state winner, Britt will receive art supplies and gift cards from Blick Art Materials. Her design will be turned into a fabric flag and displayed at the National Art Education Association National Convention in March.
School officials say this is believed to be the first Youth Art Month flag win in Adrian Public Schools history.
The flag will be returned to Britt later this spring.
