MONROE — YesterWays at the Monroe County Museum is offering a free, hands-on painting activity throughout February inspired by artist Robert Seldon Duncanson.

The drop-in program, called “Paint Like Rob,” introduces visitors to a historic craft connected to Monroe County history and is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This month’s activity focuses on Duncanson, widely recognized as the first internationally known Black artist and a pioneer of American landscape painting in the 1800s.

Participants will use watercolor paints to create their own artwork, with one-on-one guidance from museum staff. Finished pieces can be taken home, and visitors are encouraged to share their work on the museum’s Facebook page for a virtual exhibit.

The activity is free, open to ages 8 and up, and no registration is required.

The Monroe County Museum is located at 126 South Monroe Street and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
