ADRIAN — Jury selection wrapped up the first week today in the murder trial of Dale Warner in Lenawee County Circuit Court.

Warner is charged with open murder and tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty. Judge Michael Olsaver is presiding.

Jury selection began Tuesday, when prosecutors placed a plea offer on the record involving second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Warner declined the offer and chose to proceed to trial.

Across the week, many prospective jurors were questioned about prior exposure through news coverage, documentaries, social media, yard signs, and community discussion. Numerous jurors were dismissed after indicating they had already formed opinions or could not fully set aside outside information.

Screening also focused on online advocacy connected to the case. The administrators of the Justice for Dee Facebook group announced they will stop posting during the trial and noted several admins are sequestered witnesses.

Jury selection is expected to continue next week.
