Jan Harriet (Geitgey) Smith, beloved mom, MeMe and Great MeMe, age 82, of Tecumseh, MI, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026. She was born on May 28, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, the daughter of the late Harry Howard and Jeanette (Miller) Geitgey. She was joined in marriage with Ray Arthur Smith Jr. on December 31, 1993 in Indianapolis, IN, and he survives.
Jan enjoyed doing stain glass work. She always looked forward to traveling around the country with Ray in their vintage Pontiac station wagon, going to various car shows. She also enjoyed being with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her husband, Raymond Arthur Smith, Jr; her children, Shelley (Steve Thorson) Hernandez, John Hernandez, and Justin Smith; her grandchildren, Kira (Billy) Hoff, and Alexis and Antanelle Hernandez; and six great-grandchildren, Aryanna, Channing, Grayson, Brynleigh and Syaire Hernandez, and Cambrie Hoff.
Visitation for Jan will take place from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Monday, February 2, 2026 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Homes followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Arborcrest Memorial Park in Ann Arbor, MI, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
