ADRIAN — Jury selection continued today in the murder trial of Dale Warner, as the court worked through widespread familiarity with the case among potential jurors in Lenawee County.
Questioning on day three showed many prospective jurors were already aware of the case through news coverage, social media, documentaries, yard signs, and community discussion.
Court screening also continued to examine potential juror involvement in case-related advocacy. During jury selection, online advocacy tied to the case has been a recurring topic as the court evaluates whether prior exposure could affect impartiality.
That discussion comes as administrators of the Justice for Dee Facebook group announced they will stop posting for the remainder of the trial. In a statement posted to the group, Kathryn Adams, the group’s administrator wrote, “As this trial moves forward, we will be stepping back from posting for the remainder of the proceedings. This decision comes from a place of deep respect for Dee, her family, and the integrity of the justice process. Many of the admins in this group are sequestered witnesses, and protecting the truth and fairness of this case matters more than anything.”
The expected length of the trial, projected to last several weeks, also continued to narrow the jury pool. Some potential jurors were excused due to employment obligations, financial hardship, or transportation concerns tied to the length of service.
Warner is charged with open murder and tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty.
Jury selection is expected to continue as the court works to seat a full jury before opening statements can begin.
