Thomas “Tom” Albert Mutter, age 89, of Palmyra, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, January
20, 2026, at Promedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital in Adrian.
Tom was born on August 13, 1936, in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, the eighth child of Robert and Margaret (Fields)
Mutter’s eleven children. When Tom was 18 yrs old, he and one of his older brothers decided to head north to Michigan and look for jobs in the automotive manufacturing field. They lived with an older sister and her
family, who had already relocated to Michigan.
On November 10, 1956, Tom married Eileen L. Rose in Adrian, Michigan. They were blessed to have two sons and raised them in Palmyra, MI. During their 53 years together, Tom and Eileen enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. They particularly enjoyed attending school and sporting events that their children and grandchildren participated in. Eileen passed away in 2009.
Tom worked primarily as a millwright for various manufacturing companies before retiring. He was talented at woodworking and carpentry, completing many projects over the years from wooden toys to garages and other residential structures. Tom refurbished and made many additions to the family home in Palmyra which was a great accomplishment for him. He was a long-time member of Palmyra Masonic Lodge 184.
He is survived by his sons, David (Jane) Mutter and Douglas (Melissa) Mutter; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-
grandchildren; and one brother, Harry Mutter. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, grandson,
Matthew, parents and nine siblings.
Visitation for Tom will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield. There will be a masonic ceremony at noon with Palmyra and Tecumseh Lodges. Funeral services will take place at 1 PM with Pastor Larry Betz officiating.
