ADRIAN — Residents in Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties can once again get free tax return preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program at Community Action Agency.
The VITA program is available to households with income up to $69,000 for the 2025 tax year.
Automated appointment scheduling begins January 26, with additional appointment times expected to be added throughout the tax season based on volunteer availability.
During the 2025 tax season, the program helped secure nearly $4 million in federal and state refunds for nearly 3,000 households across the three counties.
New this year, residents can submit required tax documents online through Get My Refund, allowing IRS-certified volunteers to complete returns without an in-person appointment.
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 517-247-2099 or online.
Households with income up to $89,000 can also file federal and state returns for free through the My Free Taxes program.
More information is available through Community Action Agency offices.
