
TECUMSEH — The MLK Spirit Award was presented Tuesday night during the Tecumseh City Council meeting, recognizing a local student for leadership and community service.
City officials announced Macy Schmidt as the recipient of the 2026 Tecumseh Community Martin Luther King Jr. Spirit Award, which honors individuals who demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity, service, and building a strong sense of belonging in the community.
Schmidt was selected based on her record of community involvement, leadership skills, and efforts to make a positive impact in Tecumseh. City leaders said her work reflects the values promoted by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the city’s goal of fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
As part of the recognition, Schmidt will receive a one-thousand-dollar academic scholarship.
City officials said they expect Schmidt to continue contributing to the community and wished her continued success in her future academic and civic pursuits.
