TECUMSEH — Tecumseh City Council has approved a one-year farming lease with Hewlett Farms, LLC, allowing the company to continue farming city-owned land at John W. Smith Park.
City officials say Hewlett Farms has leased and farmed approximately 12 acres at the park for several years, and the arrangement reduces maintenance needs for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Under the agreement, Hewlett Farms will lease the land for 2026 at a cost of $750, or about $62.50 per acre, per year. City Manager Brett Coker explains:
Officials say the lease has worked well in past years and helps keep the land maintained without additional city resources.
The lease was approved unanimously, and the mayor and city clerk are authorized to execute the agreement.
