
MONROE CO. — Monroe County is moving to fill a vacancy in the office of Drain Commissioner.
Under Michigan law, when a vacancy occurs during an elected term, the appointment is made by the presiding probate judge, the county clerk, and the county prosecuting attorney.
The appointed Drain Commissioner will serve immediately and remain in the role until the position is filled by voters in the November 3, 2026, general election.
Applicants must be registered and qualified electors of Monroe County.
The Drain Commissioner is responsible for operating and maintaining county drains, overseeing stormwater management systems, reviewing development plans, and managing multiple budgets totaling more than $15 million.
Applications must include a resume, cover letter, and references and are due by 5 p.m. February 12.
Public meetings related to the appointment are scheduled for February 23 and March 11 at the Monroe County Board of Commissioners chambers.
