ADRIAN — The Lenawee County Veterans Affairs Office is reporting a growing demand for services among older veterans, highlighting a broader demographic shift in the community.
According to a year-end report presented to the Department of Veterans Affairs Executive Committee, the office handled 130 claims from veterans age 70 and older in 2025.
Staff reported an increase in requests for military service records, burial benefits, and survivor support, services that are often tied to aging-related needs and end-of-life planning.
Officials said the trend reflects both an aging veteran population and continued reliance on county-level assistance to navigate state and federal benefits systems.
The Veterans Affairs Office also noted a rise in documentation requests, including discharge records and proof of military service, which are commonly required for benefits eligibility.
County officials said the data will help guide future planning as demand for veteran services continues to grow.
