Larry Edward Kanous, age 90, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, with his loving family at his side.

He was born on May 29, 1935 in Lapeer Michigan to Edward and Melva (Rendel) Kanous.

Larry was a graduate of Britton High School in 1953 and served in the United States Air Force from 1953 – 1957.

On August 18, 1962, he was joined in marriage with Sharon (Ost) Henkel at Grace Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, they enjoyed over fifty-six years of marriage together before her passing in 2018. They loved, laughed and were an amazing example to their children and grandchildren.

Larry was an electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was also a member of the Britton American Legion. He was an avid sports fan watching and attending Detroit Tiger games including spring training in Florida. He loved his Michigan State Spartans, even though it wasn’t a popular choice among his friends or his wife. His greatest joy was his family and he traveled the country and beyond to watch his grandchildren participate in their sport.

The couple enjoyed camping through out the country, including long trips out West. They spent their winters in Florida each year visiting family and friends. They enjoyed time on Round Lake in the summer at their trailer where family and friends joined them for boat rides, fishing, and playing endless hours of dominos and cards. One of Larry’s other joys was watching the deer, birds, and squirrels run in his yard.

Larry is survived by his two daughters, Carrie (David) Bonofiglio of Okemos, and Sherrie (David) Toth of Kalamazoo; his grandchildren, Joshua Henkel, Jessica (Trevor)Wortman, Spencer (Lauren) Bonofiglio, Madison (Willem) Nong-Lambert, and Jacob (Jena) Toth; his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Ryder, Lawson, Mia, Lennon, and Scotlynn; his two sisters, Mary Ann (Bill) Hill of Saline, and Linda Linn of Tecumseh, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, Larry is preceded in death by his parents; son, Larrie; and brother in laws Richard Linn and Richard Bailey.

Visitation for Larry will take place from 10:30 am 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 10. 2026 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Darrell Bozeman.
