MORENCI — Winter fun is underway in Morenci, and residents are reminded that the community sledding hill at the north end of Wakefield Park is open when weather conditions allow.
City officials say the sledding hill, which opened last winter, has quickly become a popular spot for families and children to enjoy outdoor winter recreation close to home.
The hill is open from dawn to dusk and is unsupervised. Sledding is considered a hazardous activity, and use of the hill is at your own risk. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising children at all times.
For safety, the city encourages sledding only during daylight hours using proper sleds that allow steering and stopping. Inner tubes, snow discs, makeshift devices, ramps, jumps, and motorized vehicles are not allowed. Riders should sled feet-first, never headfirst, and helmets are strongly recommended.
Posted rules are available on-site. Conditions can change quickly, and users are responsible for determining if conditions are safe.
For questions, residents can contact Morenci City Hall.
