ADRIAN — A motions hearing was held December 30 in the State of Michigan v. Dale Warner case, with the defendant appearing by video from the Lenawee County Jail.

Court records show Judge Michael R. Olsaver addressed several pretrial matters. The judge granted the defense request for additional peremptory jury challenges, increasing the number to 18 for each side.

The court denied a defense motion seeking to stop law enforcement from monitoring jail calls between the defendant and attorneys, while allowing defense counsel to work with jail staff to protect privileged communications.

The judge also addressed evidentiary issues, ruling on the admissibility of photographs, allowing some exhibits and excluding others. A Daubert hearing will be scheduled to review proposed expert testimony related to paint analysis.

No changes were made to the trial schedule. Jury selection remains set to begin January 27, with a final pretrial hearing on January 14.
