Carol Lynn Taft, a gifted artist and devoted educator, passed away on December 19, 2025, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was 76 years old. Born on April 28, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, Carol’s creative spirit emerged early and flourished throughout her life. She pursued her passion for the arts with dedication and discipline, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Mercy College and later a Master of Fine Arts from Eastern Michigan University. Carol’s artistic career was as dynamic and multifaceted as the media she mastered. A prolific sculptor, welder, painter, ceramicist, and mixed media artist, she brought bold vision and technical skill to every piece she created. Her work resonated deeply within the Detroit art community and beyond. Among her many accomplishments was designing a billboard for the city of Detroit—an emblem of her commitment to public art and civic engagement. She also shared a working friendship with renowned artist Dr. Charles McGee, reflecting her deep connections within the creative world. In addition to her own artistic pursuits, Carol was a passionate teacher who inspired countless students over the years. She taught at the Center for Creative Studies and led ceramics courses at Schoolcraft College. Her classrooms were spaces of exploration and encouragement where students were empowered to find their own voices through art.
Carol is survived by her daughter Nicole and son Michael, her mother Dolores Stachura, her siblings Gregory (Jean), Steven (Carol), Gerald (Ann), James (Karen), Paul (Joy), and Christina Stachura, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren. Carol’s father, Witold, and daughter Krystin preceded her in death. Those who knew Carol will remember her not only for her immense talent but also for her vibrant spirit—lovingly described as “Carol the great and wild.” Her legacy lives on through her artwork, her students, and the enduring love of those whose lives she touched. We will miss her and love her always.
