Jean Marie Onsted, age 85, formerly of Adrian, Michigan, passed away early Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI.
Jean was born on September 19, 1940, in Adrian, MI, the daughter of Paul S. and Frieda M. (Myers) Obenour. Jean and her three brothers were raised in the Adrian area, and she graduated from AHS in 1960.
On July 28, 1959, Jean was united in marriage to James “Jim” Onsted. Over the next 65 plus years they embraced raising their 5 children and later becoming grandparents. Jean and Jim’s story demonstrated their love and commitment to one another and the faith they chose to live every day. Jim passed away in April 2025.
Jean volunteered her time and talents in the community in a variety of ways. For 20 years, she was a Camp Fire Girls leader and was also busy sewing baby quilts to donate to the local hospital or the Care Pregnancy Center (CPC) of Lenawee. She taught aqua aerobics at the Christian Family Centre for many years where she treasured the friendships and laughs that were often shared. Jean was a longtime member of Jasper Bible Church. Jean’s positive and nurturing personality were wonderful traits to have as a bus driver for LISD from 1986- 2000.
She will be missed by her children, James P. Onsted of Clinton, MI, David P. (Cathy) Onsted of Adrian, MI and Teresa M. (David) Zarnosky of Howard City, MI; son-in-law, Tim Howard and daughter-in-law, Vhebs Onsted; 11grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, Jim, Jean was preceded in death by her children, Kathy Howard and Steven Onsted; parents, Paul and Frieda Obenour; and brothers, Robert, Richard and Ronald Obenour.

A memorial celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Jasper Bible Church with Rev. Bruce Jewett officiating. Visitation will take place one hour before the celebration starts. Burial will be private at Maple Shade Cemetery in Onsted.
