ADRIAN — The Salvation Army is reminding the community that cold weather and changing habits can affect its annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign.
Officials say fewer people carry cash, which has made traditional kettle donations more challenging. To help offset that, the Salvation Army now offers a virtual giving option that allows donors to contribute using a debit card, credit card, or mobile payment.
The organization is also seeking partnerships with local churches, civic groups, schools, and businesses to host its electronic Tip Tap donation machine for one or two days.
The Red Kettle campaign is the Salvation Army’s largest fundraiser of the year and supports food assistance and Christmas gifts for children in Lenawee County.
Bell ringing will take place Saturday, December 20, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Hobby Lobby on South Main Street in Adrian.
