LANSING — The Michigan High School Athletic Association met December 5th in East Lansing to review ongoing business and discuss future work on transfer and fifth-quarter rules.

Council members focused on transfer eligibility, particularly cases involving students who compete with non-MHSAA organizations before enrolling at a member high school. The council also received an update on a Transfer Tracker tool under development to help schools determine eligibility when students change schools after ninth grade.

The council discussed fifth-quarter allowances in several sports, reviewing how the rules have been used to preserve subvarsity teams by allowing limited participation at both varsity and subvarsity levels.

Additional updates included the inaugural M-H-S-A-A Field Hockey Tournament, plans for the first boys volleyball season in spring 2026, a proposed baseball rule requiring a double first base, and ongoing concerns about the statewide shortage of athletic trainers.

The council approved its annual audit and reelected officers for the coming year.
