LENAWEE CO. — Physicians in Michigan, North Carolina and Ohio are criticizing Congress after lawmakers failed to extend enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits set to expire at the end of the year.
Doctors speaking on behalf of the Committee to Protect Health Care say the decision could affect millions of patients who rely on the credits to afford health insurance through the ACA marketplace.
The group says the U.S. Senate voted against extending the tax credits last week, and House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced there will be no House vote on the issue.
Health care providers warn that without congressional action, premiums could rise sharply, some patients could lose coverage, and rural hospitals may face additional financial strain.
The Committee to Protect Health Care says it will continue urging Congress to act before the credits expire at the end of the year.
