ADRIAN — The City of Adrian is taking a proactive step to help residents reduce unwanted wildlife activity this winter.

With temperatures dropping, vermin and pests are looking for warmth, food, and a place to nest for the winter.

Signs you may have vermin or pests at or around your property include holes, burrows, or hills in the grass or ground, trails or tracks, and droppings. Residents are advised to follow these tips to make their property less attractive to vermin and pests:

  • Eliminate food and water by properly disposing of waste in secure containers and removing open compost, feeders, fallen produce, bird baths, and decorative water features.
  • Repair leaks and reduce standing water.
  • Keep grass trimmed and all garden and planting areas trimmed and weeded.
  • Store firewood off the ground and sweep up litter and debris.
  • And ensure all areas of your building, including sheds, garages, decks and patios, are tightly sealed with no openings larger than half an inch.

If you discover signs of vermin, pests or other critters, help yourself and your neighbors by using these tips, or by hiring a professional exterminator.
