Detroit, MI – The stellar season for the Hudson Tigers football team ended with a 31-20 loss in the title game at Ford Field Friday against Harbor Beach.
Hudson found themselves down 21-0 in the first half to the Pirates before they got on the board late in the second quarter with a 15-yard Grayson Bills touchdown run. An unsuccessful two-point conversion attempt kept the score 21-6 heading into the halftime break.
The second half featured long scoring drives for each team, with Hudson striking first on a Colt Perry 53-yard touchdown run to bring the score to 21-12. Bills ran in the two-point conversion for Hudson. The 80-yard drive was the first of two of that length for the Tigers in the game.
Hudson’s second 80-yard drive was capped off by Bills’ second touchdown run of the game…this time from 5 yards out. The Tiger tally was in response to Harbor Beach’s own 80-yard possession. The two-point attempt was stopped by the Pirates, keeping the score 28-20.
Hudson squibbed the ensuing kickoff, hoping to steal a possession. Harbor Beach recovered it around midfield, used 5:59 of the game clock, and kicked a 20-yard field goal to make it a two-score lead again… 31-20.
Hudson’s Beckett Campbell had a long kick return to set up the Tigers with field position in plus-territory with 1:52 left in the game. Hudson went 15 yards in six plays, but Perry was intercepted in the end zone with 26 seconds remaining, sealing the victory for Harbor Beach.
Grayson Bills led the Tigers ground attack, gaining 148 yards on 26 carries. Beckett Campbell also rushed 26 times, picking up 103 yards. Bills found the end zone twice. Colt Perry rushed 7 times for 76 yards and a touchdown on the day. Liam Timm and Devon Brigman paced the Tigers defense, with each collecting 7 total tackles.
Hudson ends their season 13-1, Lenawee County Athletic Association champions, district champions, regional champions, and state runners-up in Division 8.
