
Richard Alan Schultz (Schultzie, Dad, Dick, and “Papa Dick”, ) was born September 3, 1945 in Toledo Ohio, the only child of Arthur Edward and Louise Caroline (Sievert) Schultz.
Dick grew up Dundee. He was a Life scout in the Boy Scouts and attended the 1960 Boy Scout Jamboree. He was a member of the 1962 Wolverine Boys State. He graduated Dundee High School in 1963, attended Eastern Michigan University, was drafted into the Army. He was stationed in C-Battery 4th -Battalion 41st- Artillery stationed at Swaebisch Gmuend Germany.
Dick served his country proudly and he was honorably discharged, and he was saddened by how much the public seemed to forget about Vietnam War Era Veterans and the support of them.
Dick married Sandra Kay McCullough in 1969 at St. John Lutheran Church Dundee. They had two sons Michael and Matthew. He was employed by Tecumseh Products. He retired December 31, 2000 after 35 years of service. He became an associate at the local Radio Shack, where he developed a lasting friendship with Jeffrey Pask.
He is survived by his love and a soul mate Karen Johnston, son Michael Schultz and grandson Keegan, and son Matthew Schultz (Sam Zielienski), and bonus children: Kimberly Russ, Pamela (Michael) Masters, and Matthew Edward ‘Red’ (Dawn) Johnston, and bonus grandchildren; Brittany (Nick) Norris (and daughter Ophelia), Zachary Smith, Kari (Justin) Pomije (children Michael and Eliana), Army Captain Dr. Amy Masters, Nicole Smith, Matthew (Holly) Johnston (children Levi and Joey), Hannah Masters, and Drew Johnston.
Dick was a member of Society of Manufacturing Engineers, NRA, Good Sam, CORSA, and American Legion. A celebration of life will take place at 1pm at the Dundee VFW Hall 6462, 418 Dunham St. Dundee, MI 48131 and military honors will be performed at 2pm by the Dundee VFW honor guard. A luncheon will follow the military honors at the hall.
