James Robert Gilligan, Sr., age 85 Saline, Ann Arbor & Bois Blanc Island, Michigan passed away peacefully November 13, 2025. Jim was born in Saline, MI, November 12, 1940, to parents Charles R. Gilligan and Frances P. (Kramer) Gilligan. He was raised in Ann Arbor, MI where he attended Ann Arbor High School. Jim was a devoted father to his three children: James Robert Gilligan, Jr., Erin Ann Gilligan (Cary Sandvig), and Bridget Ann (Gilligan) Nicholson (Roy D. Nicholson). Jim also has four beloved grandchildren: James “Jimi” Robert Gilligan III, Levi Skye Morris, Kylie Scout Gilligan and Allyson Jean Nicholson. Jim is survived by his wife, Phila (Halvorson) Gilligan along with his stepchildren: Sara (Jay) Covitz, Stephanie (Sean) Taylor. He is also survived by his siblings, George, Dennis, Sandie, and Vickie. and was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie. Among the many passions in his life, Jim especially enjoyed time with family and friends, flying his airplane, playing euchre and spoons, hunting, and spending time at his second home on Bois Blanc Island.
