Lonnie Randal Hawkins, lovingly known as “Hawk” by his family and friends, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the age of 86 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Born on September 24, 1939, in Trigg County, Kentucky, Lonnie was the son of Bonnie and Mabel (Futrell) Hawkins. After graduating from Trigg County High School, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on October 2, 1956. He served honorably until his discharge on September 15, 1960.

Shortly after returning home, Lonnie married Mary Cole on December 6, 1960, in Cadiz, Kentucky. Their union marked the beginning of a devoted partnership that spanned over 64 years.

Following their move to Michigan, Lonnie pursued higher education at Washtenaw Community College and Wayne County Community College, earning a bachelor’s degree in skilled trades. He began his working life as a carpenter in Kentucky and later built a long-standing career as a tool repairman with General Motors in Ypsilanti.

Lonnie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time in nature and was actively involved with several hunting clubs. He was also a proud 32nd Degree Mason. Above all, he was known for his loyalty, dedication, and kindness—a true family man whose presence enriched the lives of those around him.

To cherish his memory, Lonnie leaves his loving wife, Mary; three children, Larry (Becky) Hawkins, Lorraine (Paul) Kirk, and Linda Thompson; a sister, Susie (Charles) Knight; five grandchildren: Randi (Tyler) Sykes, Brandi Hawkins, Scottie Thompson, Austin (Sarah) Kirk, and Katie Thompson; two great grandchildren, Blake and Blair Sykes; and special extended family members, Jimmy Smith, Keith Joyce, and Charles Joyce. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Virgil, Nolan, and Albert Joyce; and a sister, Judy White.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian from 11:00 am until the funeral begins at 1:00 pm. Pastor Brian Hendrick will officiate. Burial will follow at North Rome Cemetery.
