MONROE CO. — Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough joined national law enforcement leaders in New York City last week for the Humane World for Animals Red Carpet Gala.

Goodnough serves on the National Sheriffs’ Association Committee on Animal Abuse and Neglect. The committee works on national efforts linking public safety with animal protection.

Also in attendance were National Sheriffs’ Association President Sheriff Chris West of Oklahoma and sheriffs from Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Virginia.

Humane World for Animals recognized the National Sheriffs’ Association for creating the first national law enforcement committee dedicated to animal protection. The group highlighted the committee’s work supporting legislation, addressing exotic animal possession, and combating animal fighting.

Sheriff West and Sheriff Troy Wellman accepted the “2025 To The Rescue Award” on behalf of the association.

Goodnough said the committee’s work helps strengthen protections for animals and supports safety efforts in Monroe County.
