LENAWEE CO. — The Michigan Department of Transportation wants everyone to stay alert when clocks “fall back” to standard time tomorrow, Sunday, November 2.
When it gets darker earlier, it can be harder for drivers to see people walking, biking, or rolling on skateboards or wheelchairs. Officials say drivers should slow down, avoid distractions, and always leave at least three feet when passing a bicyclist.
Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to wear bright or reflective clothing to stay visible.
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning and the Michigan Fitness Foundation say most crashes involving walkers or bikers happen during evening hours right after sunset.
MDOT reminds everyone that holding or using a phone while driving is illegal in Michigan.
