ROLLIN TWP. A drunk driver allegedly crashed into a moped in Rollin Township on Friday, injuring two teenagers, one seriously, according to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say a white 2015 Kia Optima and a 2008 Shenke moped were traveling northbound on US-127 near Manitou Road at around 12:20 AM when the Kia Optima struck the moped in the rear, causing the moped’s two occupants to be thrown from the vehicle.

The Kia Optima then turned around and left the scene, driving southbound with the moped lodged underneath it for several miles before a Sheriff’s Deputy located the vehicle and pulled it over.

The driver of the white Kia Optima, a 40-year-old male from Adrian, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and lodged at the Lenawee County Jail.

The occupants of the moped, one male and one female, both 17 years old, were transported to Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson.

They were both wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The male driver of the moped, from Jackson, had minor injuries, while the female passenger, from Hudson, had serious injuries and was transferred to U of M hospital for treatment.

An investigation is currently ongoing, and once it is complete, it will be forwarded to the Lenawee County Prosecutor for review.

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Adrian Police Department, Michigan State Police, and the Addison Fire Department.
