WASHTENAW — A new analysis says this year’s Michigan State versus University of Michigan rivalry football game in East Lansing is expected to bring more than $29 million to the local economy.
The consulting firm Anderson Economic Group reviewed lodging, restaurant spending, ticket sales, and other travel costs linked to the game.
The report estimates about $18 million in direct spending in East Lansing, with the rest coming from added ripple effects, such as hotel demand and displaced spending from other events.
Because MSU and U-M are only about an hour from Lenawee County, a share of that spending will come from local fans who travel for the game.
Even for those staying home, bars, pizza shops, and stores in Lenawee often see more business during rivalry weekend. So, head out to your favorite local watering hole to catch the big game!
