LANSING — MSU Extension is reminding homeowners that mulching fall leaves into the lawn can make grass healthier next spring.
Horticulture educator Barbara Gregerson with Michigan State University Extension says people should not bag leaves this fall.
Instead, she says run a mower over them once or twice a week so the pieces can fall into the turf.
That was Barbara Gregerson with MSU Extension.
She says up to six inches of leaves can be mulched at a time, depending on the mower. Years of turf studies found people needed less fertilizer in the spring, and weed growth went down because the broken leaves blocked bare spots where weeds start.
