LENAWEE CO. — The Lenawee County Board of Commissioners has officially proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Commissioner Beth Blanco presented the proclamation during this week’s board meeting, recognizing the ongoing work of Jill Hicks, Candy Harper, and staff at the Catherine Cobb Safe House.

The shelter provides emergency housing and support for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Lenawee County.

According to the 2023 Michigan State Police Crime Report, more than 67,800 domestic violence incidents were reported statewide.

Commissioners encouraged residents to speak out against abuse and support local resources that help survivors rebuild their lives.
