ADRIAN — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and doctors are reminding women that early detection saves lives.
Doctor Amanda Zahn with ProMedica explained the importance of mammograms and knowing your risk factors.
Dr. Zahn added that self-breast exams are also important, and women should watch for changes such as lumps, skin dimpling, or nipple discharge. She encouraged anyone with concerns to contact their primary care provider for testing.
Assistance programs are available to help cover mammograms, and ProMedica offers screenings at its Hickman Hospital in Adrian.
