Leland Troy Thompson, age 78, of Clinton, MI, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 under the care of Trinity Hospice. He was born on November 22, 1946, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of the late Troy Arthur and Juanita Darlene (Baugher) Thompson. Leland’s wife, Ivonia, passed away in April of 2023.

Leland was very deeply involved with his church life at the Tecumseh Assembly of God in Tecumseh. As far as he was concerned, it was his second home and his love of God sent him on mission trips to Israel and Jamaica. His working life was spent as a mechanic in the trucking industry. When he wasn’t working or involved at the church, he spent his time enjoying his other passion, which was hunting and collecting rocks.

Leland is survived and missed by his children, his daughter, Laura (Bill) Jordan of San Antonio, TX, and his son, Daniel (Joanna) Thompson of Clinton, MI; his grandchildren, Kim (Sean) Highwood, Becky, Jamie, and Billy Jordan, and Troy and Brittany Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Liam Highwood and Spencer Thompson; his brother, Doug Smeltser of Wayland, MO, and his sister, Karen Williams of Indiana; and his nephews, David, Gordon Lee, and Logan Smeltser.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Ivonia, Leland was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon Thompson, and his sister-in-law, Julie Manton.

At his request, cremation has taken place. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at the Tecumseh Assembly of God at a later date. Memorial contributions in honor Leland may be made to his church, The Tecumseh Assembly of God.
