LENAWEE CO. — Students across Lenawee County started school this fall with new backpacks and supplies, thanks to inmates at Gus Harrison Correctional Facility.
Chris Howard, homeless education coordinator with LISD, spoke with WLEN News about the donations:
The Warden’s Forum, a group of inmates and staff, raised more than $2,000 through their Prisoner Benefit Fund to donate backpacks and supplies to the Lenawee Intermediate School District. The fund is built from prisoner purchases, not taxpayer dollars.
That was Chris Hoawrd, the homeless education coordinator with LISD.
The forum says it plans to continue supporting local students in future school years.
