MONROE CO. — The Monroe County Museum is inviting the public to a free presentation this evening, Thursday, September 18.
Dr. Greg Sumner, professor and chair of the History Department at the University of Detroit Mercy, will discuss his book Michigan POW Camps in World War II.
The book tells the story of more than 6,000 German and Italian prisoners who were brought to Michigan during the war. They worked in farms and logging camps across the state, and many later returned to the U.S. to become citizens.
The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Monroe County Museum, located at 126 South Monroe Street. No registration is needed, and copies of the book will be available for purchase.
