Kathryn (Kathy) Aube, age 76, passed away August 28, 2025, in Adrian, Michigan at Lenawee Medical Care Facility under the care of Hospice of Lenawee and surrounded by family.
She was born February 25, 1949, in Alpena, Michigan, the oldest of 8 siblings. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Marsha Wise and father, Robert Aube. She is survived by her stepmother, Charlotte Aube; 7 siblings, Doris (Joe) Geroux, Linda Molter, Dan Aube, Randy Aube, Deb Zimmerman (Benda Simmons), Dawn (Jim) Berlekamp, Tim (Heather) Aube; many nieces and nephews; her good friend, Marilyn Adams and her dog, Baxter.
Kathy had many varied interests. She loved animals. She showed St Barnards at a variety of AKC events alongside her father, Robert, early in life and later had many pets she loved. Kathy liked to travel. She took many trips but traveling in the RV was her favorite, especially camping at Put-n Bay. She loved living on the lake at her home on Wolf Lake, enjoying her wave runner, swimming, and many boat rides. Her family was always top on her list. She hosted family reunions at her home for many, many years which are still fondly remembered and reminisced about. She loved Bob Seger having attended many of his performances. She loved being a snowbird after retiring. She would travel to Florida where she lived at The Great Outdoors (TGO) RV Golf Resort for 6 months in Titusville, Florida. While there she served on several committees as well as serving on the Condo Board. After taking bridge lessons in 2013, Kathy realized she had found her passion. Kathy belonged to the American Contract Bridge League, where she earned 197.5 points and attained the rank of Regional Master. She loved the challenge of bridge and the many friends she met along the way. Lastly, Kathy enjoyed ending her day taking pictures of the sunset while sipping her favorite tequila or riding around on her golf cart after dark at TGO.
Kathy knew early on she wanted to help people. She attended nursing school becoming an RN soon after high school; and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spring Arbor College with a focus on Nursing Home Administrator . Her career as nurse took many avenues including teaching until she found her niche in an administrative role. She was hired as an assistant administrator at Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, Michigan, before taking over as the administrator. During her 19 years with LMCF, she completely turned the facility from a medical model to a social model, committed to an Elder- centered community. Under Kathy’s leadership the facility became a 5 Star facility earning more than 25 awards for quality care before she retired in 2012. Returning to Lenawee Medical where she was lovingly cared for during her final days was her final tribute to the facility. A special thank you to the entire staff at LMCF, especially administrator, Erin Tuckey, and nurses Wendy Flynn and Jeanette Smith who not only cared for Kathy but were so very helpful to the family.
Donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to Lenawee Medical Care Facility Activity Fund which will help support activities for the Elders. Checks can be made out to LMCF and mailed to LMCF, Attn: activity funds, 200 Sand Creek Hwy, Adrian, Mich 49230.
